Substitute Carriers

Substitute Carriers

I am in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and our substitute carriers are horrible! I am forced to do my route every single day because I can't find a decent substitute. They miss houses and they don't care because I am the one who has to pay for the redelivery.

Not only does the route owner have to pay for the redelivery, but we have to give the subs the supplies and pay them with CASH! These guys don't even have to pay taxes! Seems as if it is best to sub versus owning a route.

How do you all find good substitutes if your paper company is issuing a list of horrible subs?

It truly depends on the area

It truly depends on the area you live in. Our subs in Pensacola are not that bad. They do ok with the deliveries, only missing 5 houses on average per substitution. They don't charge that much either.

See if your distributor is against you advertising for your own sub who is not on their list. You can probably find a sub pretty reasonable if you go outside their list.

Subs will rob you blind.

Subs will rob you blind. They don't pay taxes, don't pay for supplies, charge you cash, and don't pay for complaints. Drop your route and try to become a sub. You can work the same number of days (every day) and make MORE money!

Even if you don't make more money, you will make the SAME amount of money every week. Some areas allow subs to charge more than others. Find out your max in your area and go for it! Many carriers are in need of a break but can't get a sub to do their route.
